Metal powders are particles such as copper, nickel, aluminum, cobalt, tin, titanium and several other ones. All of these materials may be turned to dust by means of different processing technics, such as atomization, grinding, chemical, metallurgical and/or electrochemical.

The metal powder is set in the appropriate tooling and then subject to heating under controlled temperature, up to the metal fusion point required for the metallurgical bonding of the particles.

Such heating, named sintering, usually provides the agglomerated powder dough with the desired physical and mechanical properties. It is usual to apply different process steps in order to obtain higher values of mechanical resistance, dimensional tolerance, finishing, among others.
